A Journey Through Human Technological Evolution

Humanity’s journey from hunter-gatherers to technological pioneers is a testament to our species’ ingenuity and resilience. Our relationship with tools are very old that in 2011, researchers with iPhone in their pockets looking for samples of Acheulean industry around Lake Turkana in East Africa’s Rift stumbled across a trove of rough stone tools, which they estimate to be 700,000 years older than any previously discovered. No one would have predicted then on what tools we would be ending up with in future.

Approximately 15,000 years ago, our ancestors began domesticating animals, utilising them as the first “machines” to capture energy and aid in daily labor. This marked the dawn of a transformative relationship between humans and technology.

The Industrial Revolution: A Paradigm Shift

The advent of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century marked a seismic shift in how humans interacted with technology. Energy-hungry machines replaced animal and human labor, revolutionizing production processes and reducing manual toil. This era witnessed unprecedented advancements in manufacturing, transportation, and communication, propelling humanity into a new age of progress. By 1800, global industrial production had surged, increasing by over 50% in just a few decades. The global population has experienced a significant increase by over 7 Billion people from the 1800s to 2024.

Despite these technological advancements, millions of people around the world continue to toil in fields, factories, and maintenance roles. Ironically, the very machines designed to alleviate human burdens have become sources of toil and inefficiency in their lives. Those in maintenance, field service, and operations are the unsung heroes ensuring the smooth functioning of our industrial landscape, yet they often face the brunt of inefficiencies and lack of productivity.

The Promise of Industry 4.0

The concept of Industry 4.0 promised a future where smart, interconnected systems would revolutionise industries. However, a critical gap persisted: the seamless integration of information, knowledge, and expertise for real-time, accurate decision-making. We are thrilled to announce the beta release of spiderAI™, an assistive copilot designed to revolutionize how we interact with industrial machines and equipment. spiderAI™ enables users to communicate and reason with machines in simple language, dramatically improving decision-making accuracy, productivity, and efficiency. Initial tests have shown that a maintenance engineer by asking questions in simple language can generate a world class expert level vibration report in 10 minutes.
